The Republican party controls the federal U.S. government after the 2024 presidential and Congressional elections. A Republican, Donald Trump, won the White House in 2024 after receiving 49.8% of the popular vote compared to the 48.3% won by the Democratic canddiate. Since the 2024 Congressional elections, Republicans occupy 220 seats, while Democrats hold 213, with two remaining seats currently vacant. In the U.S. Senate, Republicans occupy 53 out of 100 seats, while Democrats occupy 47.
In the 2022 Congressional elections, Republicans won 222 House seats (compared to Democrats' 213) and 49 Senate seats (compared to Democrats' 51). In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump lost to the Democratic candidate, winning 46.9% of the popular vote.
